I'm excited to report that I've just received a new, soon-to-be-released book from my former King Philip's War co-author,
Michael Tougias.
The Finest Hours is the story of a February 1952 Coast Guard rescue attempt of 84 men--two oil tankers that split in two--off the coast of Cape Cod in the midst of a ferocious nor-easter. The arithmetic was awesome: two cutters and two 36' lifeboats in seventy-foot seas; even the "new math" won't get you past that one. Michael, who is the author of over a dozen books and a fabulous storyteller, co-wrote
The Finest Hours with
Casey Sherman, who wrote the acclaimed
A Rose for Mary: The Hunt for the Real Boston Strangler.
The book will be officially released on May 19 but can be pre-ordered on Amazon now. If I can track Michael down I'll have him drop a quick background note to the blog.
