Like jazz and blues singing? Seven Jazz in Leeds have some vocal treats for you this month. To start with, this Friday one of Leeds's favourite sons and founder member with Mark Knopfler and Brendan Croker of the “Notting Hillbillies"- Steve Phillips.
Steve Phillips and the Rough Diamonds
Described by Folk Roots magazine as ‘one of Europe’s most impressive Blues performers’, Steve Phillips is a gifted guitarist and singer, who is as much at home building guitars as playing them. Support 8-8.30pm is from Jamie Holroyd guitar group, with Ric Armstrong and brilliant Leeds schoolboy guitarist Alexander Santarpia .

Mads Mathias Quartet
Young Danish sax player and vocalist interpreting the music of the swing era from Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra to Harry Connick Jr. His quartet features the award-winning pianist Peter Rosendal. 'An international star in the making' (Gaffa)

Cornelius Corkery’s Gypsy Jazz Band
We're back at Inkwell for just one gig this month but it should be lot of fun! This young band from York plays the music of Django Reinhardt and Louis Armstrong. They feature Texan bassist Matthew Melford and Leeds jazz vocalist Marlena Kelli (just back from Ronnie Scotts in London!). @Inkwell, Sun 14 Feb, doors open 1pm £7/5 concessions (kids under 16 free).
Ian Shaw and Barry Green "Tower of Song"
Bearing some resemblance to the comedian Dara Ó Briain and with a wit to match, Ian Shaw is a very versatile singer, twice winner of the BBC Best Jazz Vocalist Awards. Pianist Barry Green has been a well-kept secret on the British jazz scene for the past few years. The concert celebrates standards from the popular Jewish songbook, from George Gershwin and Jerome Kern through to Stephen Sondheim and Leonard Cohen –the “Tower of Song” in the title. John Bailey Quintet
John Bailey is a jazz and classical guitarist, whose compositions are inspired by 20th century classical music, creating atmospheric landscapes, using harmony and melody to touch the listener. His band contains some of the finest musicians in the North. Sponsored by Jazz North.

"Seven Pieces of Silver"
Led by Yorkshire bassist Paul Baxter, "Seven Pieces of Silver" perform the music of one of the best jazz composers, American pianist, the late Horace Silver.
