Manchester Jazz Festival win European award - Entrepreneur Generations


Manchester Jazz Festival becomes the first UK jazz festival to be awarded the European Jazz Network Award  for Adventurous Programming at a ceremony in Manchester Town Hall today

The award was made by Piotr Turkiewicz, Chair of the EJN Award Jury to Sir Richard Leese, Leader, Manchester City Council and Steve Mead Director of the Manchester Jazz Festival Friday 22 July

The ceremony featured an exclusive extract from Ben Cottrell’s New Seeing, the Irwin Mitchell mjf originals commission 2016

The Mancheter Jazz Festival celebrates its 21st birthday with 81 gigs featuring 550 artists from across the UK and abroad in nine venues between 22 July and Sunday 31 July.

Highlights of the adventurous programme this year include "The Impossible Gentlemen" launching their new album Let’s Get Deluxe, Beats & Pieces leader and composer Ben Cottrell's special commission "New Seeing", an audio-visual late night project from Kit Downes and Tom Challenger, Tim Garland's Electric Quartet; Empirical; the 2016 Jazz North "Northern Line showcase bands plus an international strand of visiting bands from Europe.
