The coming month the Atkinson in Southport invites you to a dazzling display of contemporary bands
The Oxley-Meier Guitar Project ranges from Turkish panache to soundscapes of Latin America and English pastoralism. The duo includes Pete Oxley and Nicolas Meier who will be performing on nylon string, steel string, electric, 12 string, fretless, slide, guitar-synth, glissentar guitars and more – it’s an evening you certainly won’t want to miss.

Southport’s own superb trumpet star forsakes the big band stand and brings his newly formed piano-less sextet to the party. Expect some classy arrangements of favourite jazz tunes especially penned for this excellent ensemble. Tickets £7*
In 1967 Syd Lawrence formed what was to become the UK’s most successful and longest running Big Band, performing in theatres all over Europe and regularly featuring on many TV shows such as Les Dawson, Morecambe and Wise, Pebble Mill, Wheel Tappers and Shunters and a Royal Variety performance.
