JD Merrill for State Senate: I've known JD for over 10 years, as a student and later as a colleague and advocate, and he's one of the most remarkable young leaders I've ever encountered - Entrepreneur Generations

I have known J.D. Merrill for over 10 years, first as a student-athlete on the City College baseball team and a very active student leader, then as a colleague as a Social Studies teacher when he returned to his alma mater to teach. 

In his 2nd and 3rd years of teaching, J.D. also doubled as a a community organizer and advocate, and helped raise over $2 million to build a new state-of-the-art library at our school, which my students use every day (over my 17 years of teaching, many years we had no library at all, and now we have one of the best high school libraries in the state). Later, J.D. took his educational advocacy skills and expanded them to work for the whole Baltimore City Schools System, working as a Special Assistant to the Chief of Staff for the school system for all students in Baltimore City.

Through it all, J.D.'s genuineness and love for Baltimore have shined through everything he does. He is smart, impassioned, kind, and so very authentic, and has lived his life as a fierce advocate for Baltimore City students. I'm so excited and proud to share that he'll be running for the Maryland State Senate in his 41st District.

The 2016 elections proved very important for Baltimore, bringing much-needed change to the Baltimore City Council. 2018 is shaping up to be another amazing year of change for our local and national politics, with leaders like Cory McCray, Antonio Hayes, and Mary Washington throwing their hats into the ring to challenge incumbent Senators in their respective districts. 

I'm excited that J.D. Merrill -- who is exactly the type of person we want joining the Maryland State Senate to lead forces of change throughout the city and state -- is doing the same. Check out his website, make a donation, and listen for his name in the upcoming weeks. Anyone who knows or has worked with J.D. knows that he's the real deal. In the State Senate, J.D. Merrill will make sure that Baltimore City Public Schools are funded fairly and equitably, which is my #1 issue and should be everyone else's #1 issue for improving Baltimore City.

JD is in the middle back. He was the primary 1st baseman for the Knights from 2007-2009, and also served as an excellent Team Captain and leader.
