Jazz Leeds has something for everyone this month, with an emphasis on some of the younger jazz musicians from both Leeds and London. But to start the month - something more traditional

With a line-up steeped in tradition, Draw By Four take the classic 60s organ quartet into brand new territory where the compositions from saxman Jon Shenoy mix contrapuntal bass lines and rhythmic hooks with thoughtful lyricism. Leeds own Sam Dunn is back at Seven Arts on guitar.

Swiss saxman Alain Brenzikofer formed Tonejuice as an international band project consisting of six musicians from Switzerland and England including our own Will Powell on guitar. Deep ballads, bouncing rhythms, odd meters and modal harmony offer a tasty juice for brain, body and soul. The new album "Rouge Fonce" was given a 4**** star review in this months's Jazz Journal. Tom Ridout’s “No Excuses” @Seven Arts, Thus 19 April 8pm
Tom Ridout saxophones and recorders, Rob Luft guitars, Will Barry piano and Rhodes , Flo Moore electric basses, Phelan Burgoyne drums , Billy Marrows guitar, Anastasia Stahlmann lead violin, Didier Osindero 2nd violin, Anita Kurowska viola, Cecilia Bignall ‘cello , Alexandra Ridout flugel and trumpet, Anna Drysdale french horn, Elliot Pooley trombone.
Tom Ridout is a 23 year old saxophonist/recorder player and composer from London. “No Excuses” is his 13 piece ensemble with influences including jazz, folk, 60’s rock/pop and early 20th century tonal classical music. It includes some of the brightest young jazz musicians on the London jazz scene at the moment such as Alexandra Ridout winner of the BBC Young Jazz Musician of the year in 2017. Support (8-8.30pm) is from Ozzy Moysey’s Ancient Infinity Orchestra

Jazz Leeds Festival 2018 20-24 July
Our preparations for our JazzLeeds festival in Leeds City Centre are going really well! It's a five day festival this year at various venues including the Wardrobe, the Carriageworks and Leeds College of Music. We’re featuring international stars but also featuring some of the musicians and stories from this great city of Leeds. April Inkwell Divas - Saturday 7 April 1.30-3pm in the cafe at Inkwell featuring young vocalist Genevieve Begley appearing for the first time at the Inkwell cafe in the Inkwell Divas series with fellow LCoM students Tom Woodhouse on guitar, Alasdair Pennington on drums and Marcus Cain on bass. April Rush Hour Jazz - Wednesday 18 April 6-7pm in the bar @Seven Arts featuring Tom Sharp on trumpet. Tom has a busy performance schedule with many different bands performing various styles of music. He’ll be appearing at Rush Hour Jazz with the Jazz Leeds trio with Jeff Hewer guitar, Steve Crocker bass and Dom Moore drums. PAYF contribution
Jazz Workshops meet on Sunday mornings on 1st and 15th April to help you lean more about jazz playing @Inkwell 10-12 am cost £10 (or £8 conc) per session. Tutors are Tom Sharp or Dom Moore - contact jeanwatsonlifeskills@hotmail.com tel 0113 2370700.
