Chapel Allerton Village Jazz Festival Aug 30- Sept 2nd - Entrepreneur Generations

Julian Arguelles 1 September
This will be the tenth year JazzLeeds have run the Village Jazz Fringe as part of the Chapel Allerton Arts Festival. It all started at the Mustard Pot with an afternoon jazz jam session – now we are up to four days of jazz blues, salsa and swing throughout Chapel Allerton in North Leeds

We starts with the Big Easy swing band on the Thursday 30 August featuring the swing music of the 20’s and 30’s with the greatest tunes by the giants of swing; Louis Armstrong, Louis Prima, Nina Simone and many more household names, added their own interesting arrangements to bring you a set of the finest swing tunes (@Seven Arts 8pm). Support is from the Em Brown Quartet

The Friday evening features the music of legendary Jazz pianist Oscar Peterson. Chris Lloyd plays the Steinway grand piano at the School of Philosophy on Woodland Lane Chapel Allerton (31 Aug 7.30-10pm). His “Lloyd Plays Peterson show will start at 7.30pm and will be followed later by a festival jazz jam session so come along and sing or play!

The headline festival act @Seven Arts on Saturday 1 Sept 8pm is the quartet led by saxophonist, composer and international performer Julian Argüelles. Julian joins up with some of the UK’s leading younger jazz musicians in the form of Ivo Neame on piano and the powerful bass and drums duo of Sam Lasserson and James Maddren, displaying Argüelles’ consistent talent for freewheeling jazz ventures packed with striking compositions. Neame is a fluently inventive pianist. This is a jazz group to the core, yet it is full of non-jazz surprises! The quartet will also lead a masterclass before the concert at 5.30pm. Support is from Northern Line band Tiptoe

The Sunday afternoon is traditionally Jazz Sunday at the festival – an open air concert of jazz blues and salsa bands in Regent Street 12.30-6pm will get you dancing! It includes local big band The North Leeds Jazz Orchestra, Nick Svarc’s blues band “Who Knows”, Leeds’ answer to Sun Ra “The Ancient Infinity Orchestra”, Sueli Gil's "Africa- Brazil" and popular soul jazz band “Atlantic Crossover”.
