Scarborough Jazz are back! - Entrepreneur Generations

                                                                Stuart McDonald - 28 July

It's been a strange time for all of us in the last fifteen months but I'm pleased to say we haven't been idle at Scarborough Jazz. Indeed the committee have been very busy - as you will see.

We booked three studio sessions to record online gigs. These were not only intended to keep our regular audience engaged, but were aimed at a wider demograph, in the hope that our live relaunch will attract a broader audience. The sessions were with Kate Peters and Ian Chalk (plus our resident trio, MG3), AC3 and Stony Jazz. The first two are out there on You Tube and the final one will be aired on 14th. July. You can find links to these on our website - www.scarboroughjazz.co.uk

28th July sees our live relaunch at The Cask, our spiritual home. The night features well known and loved sax supremo Stuart McDonald, backed by resident trio MG3, with support from local rising jazz stars Purple Cheesecake. It's difficult to know at this time how things will pan out but we are confident of a good turn for what will be our return to weekly sessions. The programme going forward is looking great and it is particularly gratifying to be able to rebook all those acts that had to be postponed last year.

We are hoping the Scarborough Jazz Festival will be able to go ahead as planned on the weekend of 24th. to 26th. September. The line up is truly stellar and promises to be yet another event to remember. We are all so looking forward to seeing old, and not so old, faces again - there is a lot to catch up on.

Mike Gordon is obviously very busy with Festival business, which takes up a great deal of his time. For this reason he has stepped down as Chair of SJ. Fear not, both Mike and Marian are still a very active and essential part of our highly valued committee, and Mike is still very much a part of our resident trio MG3 - although he will be sharing piano duties with Mark (his Son, and a very good player in his own right).

Looking forward to seeing you all soon (preferably in the flesh rather than on Zoom!).

Bob Walker
